On 16 May 2012, Fraunhofer organized an expert workshop gathering key players from the microsystems community.
In the food industry, MST can be used to micro-fabricate sensors and diagnostic systems, including the necessary sample preparation that will detect and quantify pressure, acceleration, humidity, temperature, physical damage and exposure to radiation, but also chemical and biological agents. Integrated MST will significantly contribute to the economic benefit of European food industry by providing small and cost-efficient sensors. In this way, it contributed to the overall food quality and strengthen consumer confidence.
Workshop discussions focused on upcoming European funding initiatives and project cooperation linked to food applications.
