“Two centuries of university and company in the Spanish

    agro-food sector”

This coincides with significant anniversaries of two of the Foundation’s patrons: 150 years of the Higher School of Agricultural Engineers in Madrid UPM), and Nestlé Spain (100 years), and is a visual display of the constant efforts to innovate in the Spanish food sector over a stage of its history. It is presented in Madrid and Barcelona in homage to its protagonists and a contribution to World Food Day (FAO).

The photographic vision presented in this exhibition is in chronological order. It begins with the pre-industrial food world, thus to reflect the period when the companies that are now celebrating their centenaries were founded, and the modernist period between 1895 and 1923 when a large number of buildings were put up, including agricultural cooperatives, wine cellars, distilleries, flour mills, etc., continuing with the period covered by the Dictatorship, the Second Republic and the Civil War, followed by the post-war period until the end of autarky in 1956 and finally, the second half of the 20th century with the economic revival of Spain.

The contribution of the universities to the progress and consolidation of studies and research into the agro-food field is of great importance.

This development culminates nowadays with a new conceptualisation of food in its relations with the ethics of the every human’s right to be fed, not only for their physical development, but also for the identification between good food and culture.

The exhibition is complemented with an imaginary journey to the food world of Ancient Egypt, a root that is almost 40 centuries long that links today’s reality to the origins of our civilisation.
