The United Nations has launched a universal challenge in its 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, all of them need a great effort from society.
There is no doubt that experimentation with its replicas and reason, have solidified science as a universal knowledge independent of beliefs and assumed by all, and this has meant important advances in humanity at different levels (health, food, transportation, housing , communication …).
However, in this advanced world, puzzling signs appear. Suddenly we have moved from an analog world to a digital world. Advances in science are admitted in certain aspects but not in others. And although we admit individual freedom in beliefs, it is surprising the frequent fact that the same person thinks with opposite criteria about two specific facts: is it an inconsistency? For global facts there is a collective responsibility and this responsibility with a scientific and common criterion is what makes us move forward. And if this fails social achievement is in danger.
Faced with this situation, and referring specifically to food and its entire environment, scientists and their institutions have published a statement on the rigor and mechanisms of scientific and regulatory organizations in the areas of food.
The Triptolemos Foundation Declaration on false news and recommendations in the food sector, with more than 100 signatures, denounce the false news and all those commercial strategies that under different forms call into question the rigor of the rules and legislation, either creating an unfounded alarmism on a specific issue or proposing the decrease of the authorized limits (with a clear attack on the balance of ingredients that guarantee food security), with unfair practices, often with economic return, and that belittle the seriousness of science and the competent international organizations and cause confusion in the citizen. This dynamic favors food losses and waste, and this goes against the security and global sustainability of the food system and undermines confidence.
Science is not static, it constantly updates its knowledge, and once its hypotheses have been proven and proven, they are incorporated into international and national regulations. The reference institutions ensure the safety of all citizens, including those who, by their convictions, wish to consume products with different ingredients and food technologies, and establish specific legislation.
“Science is not static, it constantly updates its knowledge, and once its hypotheses have been tested and proven, they are incorporated into international and national regulations.“
The United Nations has launched a universal challenge in its 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals, all of them need a great effort from the Society not only from a rational application of all knowledge of science, both physical and social, but also , and very important, on the formation to the citizen of his correct interpretation in the challenges of the new surroundings. Of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, the first two are defined as “Zero Hunger” and “Right Health“. An unequivocal sign of the importance of any effort, however small, for the proper and proper functioning of the Global Food System in which the substrate of good information, gives confidence and tranquility to the citizen.
