PRESENTATION ACT OF THE GLOBAL FOOD SYSTEM IN THE UNIVERSITY OF LEÓN

How do we contribute from the University to face the challenges of a Sustainable Global Food System?

Coinciding with World Food Day (FAO), on October 16, the University of León and the Triptolemos Foundation held an event at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, chaired by the rector, Juan Francisco García Marín. Triptolemos Foundation offered its vision of how to face the challenges of a sustainable global food system and discussed the food challenges of the 21st century with a systemic vision and interrelation between the various areas of knowledge of the food fact.

The whole food environment forms a complex system of actions and reactions that involves aspects of production, economic, legal, political, sociological … with reciprocal influence on health, behavior and beliefs.

The TRIPTOLEMOS Foundation interprets the Food System from a model of four interrelated basic axes (availability, economy, policies and culture). This vision has earned him the recognition of UNESCO with the Chair “Science and innovation for sustainable development: production and world food security”.

It has been a good opportunity to develop and enhance the concept of the Food System at the University of León with the purpose of fostering and promoting interrelation to optimally solve the challenges of the 21st century. The University of León, due to its geographical location and dynamism in food issues, joined the Triptolemos Foundation at the last board meeting held in Madrid, at the UPM on February 19, 2019.
